Penny Angeli

PALM DESERT, Calif. — Penny Margaret Angeli, 64, died at her home in Palm Desert, Calif. on Jan. 11, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Penny was born on May 18, 1957, in Stambaugh, to Alfred (Bay) and Audrey (Trombley) Angeli. Her grandparents were Alfred and Elvira (Manci) Angeli and George and Margaret (Shogren) Trombley.

She is survived by her siblings, Chris (Linda DeBauche), Rex and Jamie (Christy Tomlinson); aunts, Catherine Angeli, Carol Angeli, Diane Angeli and Marilyn (Lueken) Thanepoehn. She is also survived by her special “nieces,” dogs Phoebe and Cedar.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Burt; and beloved dogs, Jazzi and Trombley (golden retrievers), Pasta, Pooper and Rags (yellow labs) as well as her nephew, Jack (golden retriever).

She was proud of her many nieces and nephews: Stephanie, Andriana, Alyssa, Chad, Josh, Hilary, Megan, Riley, Steven, Joshua, Jacob, and Jordan.

She was a 1975 graduate of West Iron County High School in Iron River, where she was a standout basketball player, softball pitcher and bowler. After high school, she went on to graduate from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, with a degree in physical education in 1979.

Penny worked very hard in her work life with high level security positions at Cisco Systems, Hewlett Packard, and Google, to name a few. She earned every minute of her retirement, but it was cut way too short. She had a beautiful home in Palm Desert, and an equally beautiful cabin in her hometown of Iron River, affectionally known as “Penny’s Paradise.” She really enjoyed her time at both places, especially when friends would come to visit….and boy did they come. We will always remember the incredible photographs of the wonderful meals they all enjoyed together. She loved sharing photos of the plate of food she just ordered at one of her many favorite restaurants (Riverside Pizza and Alice’s in Iron River being two of them), or the table decked out by family and friends with all the food that was about to be consumed.

Penny loved the Green Bay Packers, a love no doubt fueled in her early years by her father and brothers and their love for the green and gold. She so enjoyed sitting down with a hot chocolate or Pepsi in front of a roaring fire to catch the latest game.

Like her father, another passion of Penny’s was feeding the many deer that would come up to her cabin for an early breakfast or lunch. She always spoke fondly of Bella, Clarice, Lady, Bailey, Buttercup and Bumble.

In her last communication to her brothers, Penny wrote, “I love you guys more than I can say. Had a wonderful childhood, what could be better than time spent in play at the Angeli Farm.”

Thanks to her grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles, cousins…she did have the best childhood. Life at the farm, minibikes in the summer, horses, snowmobiles in the winter, amazing Italian food with the largest of family meals and gatherings, swimming, fishing, and playing cards at the Lueken cabin, it was truly a blessed childhood.

The Angeli Family would like to thank the many people who have reached out with words of encouragement and love for their dear sister during her battle with cancer. We are so grateful to so many who expressed their appreciation and love for Penny by taking the time to visit, go out for dinner, or take a trip on one of her many adventures. We especially appreciate the love and support from two of her most favorite cousins, Mary Arcand (Angeli) and Becky Lueken. She will be missed by all her family and friends, more than words can describe.

No funeral or visitation plans have been made at this time.
