Joan Dehart Blaz

LAMA, N.M. — Joan DeHart Blaz, 78, a resident of Lama, N.M., formerly of Loretto, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2022.

She was born on Feb. 14, 1944, in Loretto, the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary DeHart.

Joan attended school in Loretto and graduated from Vulcan High School in 1962.

In high school Joan received the Home-Ec Betty Crocker Medal, where you need to be good at cooking, baking and sewing. She also won the 4-H award for her sewing.

Joan was known for being the “Avon Lady” of Taos, N.M. She sold Avon in Taos for many years. When Joan was not busy with her beautiful customers, you would find Joan volunteering with her husband at the Lama Volunteer Fire Department.

She loved helping her community of Lama. She especially enjoyed spending time outdoors camping and doing her amazing photography. Her beautiful smile and great personality will be missed by many.

Joan is survived by her husband, Roy Blaz; children, Natalie (Jason) Gray, Jeanette Johnson, and Lawrence (Katherine) Johnson; stepchildren Nick (Ginger) Blaz, and Christopher (Erin) Blaz; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, her sister, Marjorie Corozolla; and brother, David DeHart; plus many other loving relatives and cherished friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond John DeHart Jr. and sister, Joan Mary DeHart.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date.
