Donald J. ‘Hozer’ Mroz

REPUBLIC — Donald J. “Hozer” Mroz, 72, of Republic, passed away peacefully early morning on Jan. 23, 2023 at the Aurora Baycare Hospital in Green Bay, Wis. with the love of his life by his side.

Don was born May 2, 1950, son of the late Henry and Alice (Tomasoski) Mroz. Don was born and raised in Vulcan and graduated from Norway High School in 1968.

After attending Michigan State University, he worked in construction for a number of years, spending time in Ishpeming before moving to Norway. He helped build the Quinnesec paper mill, then took a job there when it opened in 1985, working in the woodyard until he retired in 2012.

Don married Lori Wasson on Oct. 29, 2011, at the Thirsty Whale in Norway by their good friend, Paula.

Don loved hunting, fishing, spending time at camp, playing pool, and watching sports, especially soccer. He coached his kids in Little League Baseball and soccer and is a former president of the local youth S.A.Y. soccer league. In his free time, he enjoyed fixing/building things, riding ATVs, and spending time with his Bat Lake family.

He is survived by his wife, Lori Mroz; son, Derrick (Kate) Mroz of Highland, Mich.; daughter, Janel Mroz of Southfield, Mich.; stepson, Andrew Wasson of Little Suamico, Wis.; grandchildren, Devin, Taylor, Finola, Alexander, and Victoria; brother, Tom (Joy) Mroz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Skip Dennis.

A celebration of his awesome life is being planned for the spring.
