Carl ‘Ray’ Carlson

Carl “Ray” Carlson

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP — Carl “Ray” Carlson, 95, of Breitung Township, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Florence Health Services.

He was born Oct. 31, 1929, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Carl and Ethel (Peterson) Carlson. A 1947 graduate of Iron Mountain High School, Carl served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later spent 37 years working as a railroad signalman for the Milwaukee Railroad before retiring.

A lifelong bachelor, Carl was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman who was always up for a visit or a phone call. He loved to reminisce, sharing stories of his siblings and their adventures growing up, and he soooo loved his root beer!

Carl was humble, sharp-witted and deeply independent; he had a quiet strength and a smart, grounded view of the world. His sense of humor could light up a room, and his kindness left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

Carl is survived by his two sisters, Mae Chartier of Kingsford and Betty Dahlgren of Iron Mountain; and was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by four brothers, Gil, Clarence “Cardy”, Glenn, and Al Carlson; and a sister, June Guentner.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Condolences to the family of Carl “Ray” Carlson may be expressed online at www.ernashfuneralhomes.com.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.
