Grateful for care at VA hospitals

Bouquets & Barbs

Bouquet

From Dane Paquette, retired U.S. Air Force, Iron Mountain:

To all the staff, nurses, orderlies, food service, doctors and everyone else at the Iron Mountain VA Hospital, I would like to thank you for all the service I received when I was there for five weeks, recovering from my knee surgery (I got a new knee).

The professionalism and love was just so great.

People might hear things from around the country about other VA hospitals, but this one here in Iron Mountain is off-the-charts great. All the people at the C.L.C. and the people at my P.T. were so caring. I can’t thank them enough for everything.

Also, thanks to my doctor and everyone else in the Milwaukee VA for everything they did.

And also to all my friends that came to see me at the VA, for the cards, chocolates, balloons, and other things like rides to pay bills and things. I know that I know a lot of people, but I didn’t know I had that many friends.

Thanks and God bless.

Martha’s Soup Kitchen an asset to community

Bouquet

From Agatha Cavaiani, Kingsford:

Most area churches serve their free community meals in the early evening.

Carol McCarty saw a need for an 11:30 a.m. meal in the downtown area in Iron Mountain within walking distance of the Cornerstone Church.

Some home-schooled and public school kids also attended.

Martha’s Soup Kitchen was a dream come true for Carol. The kitchen has now moved to the Queen of Peace Church in Kingsford, with homemade soup, homemade bread, and homemade cookies, with a beverage of your choice, and open to all.

The kitchen is now closed for the summer but will open again in October. A group of volunteer ladies and men help serve every Tuesday at 11:30 a.m., with the kitchen opening at 11 a.m.

The ministry now extends to the homebound and take-outs are available. Some commodities are given as well.

What a great service to the community. God bless.
