Church, politics should not mix

I read with interest the article that the Republican Congress is trying to advance that churches can openly support the candidate of their choice. While the churches have done this all the while, they now want to be allowed to do it openly.

While I will admit I am not a church goer — I believe I can talk to God much better in a woods or by the side of a lake — I do not begrudge those who do. But churches are tax-exempt on both income and property. If they wish to now get involved with politics, shouldn’t they lose this exempt status and pay property taxes and income taxes on collections, just as any political group must do? Or go back to their original purpose help people to lead a better life.
