True All-M&O volleyball performers
November 8, 2012 - Burt Angeli
The facts and figures back up Niagara’s All-M&O Conference volleyball first-team selections.
Senior captain Maryellen Wagener, one of the area’s top three players, recorded team-highs for kills (281) and service aces.
“Maryellen was our go-to player,” Badgers coach Carol St. Arnauld told the Peshtigo Times. “She is an undersized middle hitter but she played much taller than she was.”
Badgers sophomore Shelby Borchardt also earned M&O defensive specialist honors with her first-team selection. She tallied 261 digs in conference play.
“Shelby was an all-around player for us, but her specialty was defense,” said St. Arnauld, noting Borchardt was second on the team in service aces. “If a save was going to be made on our team, it was Shelby who was going to make it.
“I look forward to having her for two more years.”
