Happy with Bears first draft pick
April 29, 2013 - Terri Castelaz
The 2013 NFL draft is in the books. The Bears first round pick was Kyle Long, son of Hall of Famer Howie Long of the Oakland Raiders.
I know many Bear fans were shocked by them taking Long in the first round. Feelings of his inexperience as the reason why. Also many were thinking they would take Manti Te'o, who didn’t get drafted in the first round.
Howie said there was no way that his son would be available down at 50 for the Bears either. He claims his son would never make it out of the first round. So was he just a proud dad boasting his son, or did he have inside information? Makes you wonder.
Many experts believe it will take Long time to mature and will probably start at first in a backup role.
I think Long will go into camp with every opportunity to win the starting left guard job. Looking at the players he has to go against, most notably Gabe Carimi, he should come out of training camp with the job.
Well this pick made Lynnie and I even happier that we could possibly run into Howie on our trip to Chicago this year.
