Golf Hall of Famer from Ontonagon
June 18, 2013 - Burt Angeli
Ontonagon’s Tom Strong, recognized as a player and an administrator, has been selected to the Wisconsin State Golf Association Hall of Fame.
Strong will be the 85th inductee and the fourth from the Upper Peninsula, according to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel golf writer Gary D’Amato. He joins Dennis Tiziani in 1989, Larry Tiziani in 2009 and Syd Wells last year.
"I'm honored to go in," Strong told D’Amato. "What impresses me is the caliber of players and people in the Hall. I'm very humbled by that. It still hasn't sunk in yet.
"Syd Wells (Menominee) played against my mom (Flossie Strong), and my mom is in the U.P. Sports Hall of Fame for golf. It's kind of strange that I'm going in just after Syd."
