Albeck 'great leader, great coach'

Former Northern Michigan University basketball coach Stan Albeck entered the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame recently.
Albeck, who coached the Spurs to a pair of Midwest Division titles, certainly influenced NBA great George (Iceman) Gervin.
"Stan was a great leader, a great coach," Gervin said. "He knew how to utilize the talent that he had. He matched us real well together. We wanted to win for him. He was that kind of coach. I tell guys, you know, players play for their coach.
"Stan was one of those kind of guys that we all respected and cared about, and we knew he cared about us. He developed a system for the players that he had. He made the game of basketball fun." Albeck also coached the New Jersey Nets and Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls (1985-86).
