KINGSFORD - It was another beautiful day, but a much quieter gathering of the Golden K Club as members met together Aug. 27, at the Presbyterian Church in Kingsford .
The gavel clanged the bell to start the meeting with the pledge to the Flag and singing of "God Bless America."
Acting chairperson Orice Walters called for a moment of silence in memory of our Golden K sister Rose Marie Lundell, whose Celebration of Life Memorial service was that morning.
Members then sang the GK traditional "Auld Lange Syne," sung when a GK member enters their eternal rest. With Lois Outcelt at the piano, members sang a few other memorable songs.
The welcome song was sung for three guests. Ben Detterman had his friend from Ohio visiting; Kay and Don Williamson had Nancy Norris of Aurora as their guest and Bob Bowman introduced his Spread Eagle summer neighbor, Brian Johnson of Chicago.
"Happy Birthday" was sung for Jim Verrette.
Celebrating anniversaries this week are GK members; Chuck and Betty Harris, Don and Rose Pedo, Leon and Sarah Gospadareck, and Mike and Pauline Werner.
The Peanut Fund-raiser co-chairmen, Harlan Walters and Ken Schultz reported on the two-day Golden K peanut promotion taking place this Thursday and Friday at area businesses. The peanut captains received their peanut promotion bags at the meeting.
Volunteer GK peanut captains are: Jim Pollard at Ebeling's in Norway; Ray and Lois Outcelt at Marcouillier's in Niagara; Allan and Phyllis Galeazzi at Shopko; Bruce Stuart at Econo Foods; Bob Rigoni at Super One; Ron and Joan Jouppi at the post office; Ben Detterman at Walmart; and Bill and Margaret Trudell at Walmart.
Other GK Volunteers filled the various time slots with their captains. The annual peanut promotion is the only fund-raiser by the Golden K Club each year. Funds received are used to do the many charitable community services provided by the Dickinson Area Golden K Club.
The meeting was adjourned early so the members and the Golden Throats could attend to sing at the service for their Golden Throats member Rose Marie Lundell.
There will be no GK meeting next week on Labor Day. The Golden Throats will be singing at Hylands on Sept. 5 at 2 p.m. and on Sept. 12 at ManorCare.
The next meeting of the Dickinson Area Golden K Club is Monday, Sept. 10.
This meeting will take place at the Rainbow's End Alpaca Farm located just before the Norway RR Viaduct near the east city limits of Norway. A blaze orange cone will be located at the base of the driveway to the Alpaca Farm just to the right going east on U.S. 2.
A regular business meeting will be held at the farm. There is plenty of parking room or members can arrange to pool rides by meeting at the Presbyterian church. Bill Roberts of Norway is the program chairman.
Owner Mary Verley will tell about the Alpaca Farm. There will be singing with a keyboard and a coffee and sweet roll buffet. Bring your lawn chairs or enjoy seating on the large veranda with view of the Alpaca's.
September GK chairperson is Lois Outcelt. Any questions about the Sept. 10 meeting can be directed to Bill Roberts or Paul Ward.
