FLORENCE, Wis. - The Florence County Sheriff's Office has issued a scam alert involving Publishers Clearing House.

Florence County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy David Gribble said a local resident received a call from a person reporting they were from Publishers Clearing House and that the resident just won a Mercedes Benz along with two checks - one for $50,000 and another for $880,000.

The caller instructed the resident to go to Walgreens, buy a money pack card and put $400 on it.

They are given a number to call Publishers Clearing House back and when they do, they are asked for the number from the money pak card, Chief Deputy Gribble said.

The Florence County Sheriff's Office reminds residents not to give out any personal information, credit card or money card information over the phone and to call the sheriff's office if they receive any of these types of calls.
