NMU summer grads announced

Northern Michigan University announces its graduates. The following students from the local area satisfied their degree requirements in August.

Certificate

Crystal Falls - Kaylee West, cosmetology.

Associate Degree

Crystal Falls - Alicia Lesandrini, applied child development.

Baccalaureate Degree

Iron Mountain - Andrew Reddinger, environmental conservation; Rose Scheibe, sociology/liberal arts; Megan Uren, criminal justice ;

Iron River - Tyge Benson, criminal justice; Clayton Powell, computer science;

Master's Degree

Kingsford - Amber Bacon, reading (BT).

Butler University welcomed its largest freshman class in history this year, weighing in at 1,111 new students. Of the 1,111 freshmen, 152 are Butler legacies, including Emily Slajus of Iron Mountain.

A legacy includes anyone whose parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles or cousins attended the university. Butler has built a rich tradition for legacies on campus that includes scholarship opportunities and special Welcome Week activities.
