SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. - Gertrude S. Nelson, 80, of Spread Eagle, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara.
She was born on Feb. 29, 1932, in Chicago the daughter of the late Albert and Sophie (Mack) Siegle.
Gertrude married George Nelson on July 13, 1957, in Chicago. The couple lived in Orland Park, Ill., and moved to Spread Eagle in 1995 after their retirement.
Gertrude was a member of the Norway Evangelical Covenant Church and she enjoyed being involved in church activities. She was actively involved in the political process for many years and volunteered at the polls. Gertrude was an exemplary homemaker, quilter, seamstress, and knitter. She belonged to the American Quilter's Association. Gertrude also enjoyed ice skating and dancing. She was a very talented and creative woman.
Gertrude is survived by her husband, George; two sons, Eric Nelson of O'Fallon, Ill., and Leif Nelson of London, England; two daughters, Inger (Paul) Jacobson of Stevens Point, Wis., and Greta Nelson of Stuarts Draft, Va.; one sister, Linda (William) Venhuizen of Oak Lawn, Ill.; and five grandchildren, Sarah (Chris) Scott, Rebecca Nelson, Niles Nelson, Aarika Nelson, and Anders Jacobson.
You are invited to visit with the family from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Norway Evangelical Church in Norway. Memorial services will follow Tuesday at 11 a.m. Rev. James Danielson will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Norway Evangelical Covenant Church.
