IRON MOUNTAIN - The Northern Lights YMCA winter programs are planned and ready for registration, according to an announcement by Carmie Schmoll, YMCA membership and marketing director at the Northern Lights YMCA-Dickinson Center.
"We're always excited to begin a new semester of programming" Schmoll said. "It gives us an opportunity to roll-out new things and make our community aware of the broad range of programs we offer."
YMCA winter programs begin Jan. 7, with registration available now at the YMCA desk or by accessing the organizations website ddymca.com
YMCA staff have indicated that several new programs are being offered along with the traditional swim lessons and group exercise classes the YMCA is known for.
"We have a number of new youth programs being offered just for the fun of it" said YMCA Youth Programs Coordinator Adrien Brzoznowski. "Take Whiffle Ball for example, it's just one of those games that we all enjoy. It ranks right up there with Kickball and Dodge Ball as all-time kid favorites and now we offer these programs at the Y as a five week programs."
The YMCA is also offering more sports oriented programs like Little Dunkers a basketball learning program along and indoor soccer both for ages 5,6, and 7.
Swim lessons, water exercise and the Northern Lights Swim team for ages 6 to 18 are all well-known programs that the YMCA offers each fall and winter.
Chris Cavalieri, aquatics coordinator said the swim team travels to YMCA's in the region on most weekends as well as hosting a meet here in Dickinson County.
The YMCA offers financial assistance for every program for low-income individuals and families as well as assistance to become a member. "It's one of the things that makes us a YMCA" said Jennifer Nettell, YMCA center director.
"All we ask is proof of income. We use the schools free and reduced lunch guidelines so if a family knows they qualify for that program, it's very likely we can help them here at the Y too," Nettell added.
