MENOMINEE - A 50-year-old Stephenson woman was killed and two other people were injured Friday when a mini-van and pickup truck collided head-on on M-35 near County Road 551 in Menominee County's Cedarville Township.

Killed in the crash was Jill Renee Anderson, a passenger in a pickup truck driven by her husband, 52-year-old Jeffrey D. Anderson, said Menominee County Sheriff Kenny Marks.

Jill Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband was transported to Bay Area Medical Center and later transferred to St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis., where he was listed Saturday in fair condition.

The driver of the minivan, Margaret M. Winter, 73, of Marquette County, was also transported to Bay Area Medical Center, transferred to St. Vincent, and listed Saturday in fair condition.

The accident occurred at 5:13 p.m. and M-35 was closed to traffic for nearly four hours during the extrication and crash investigation, Menominee County deputies said.

Light snow started falling after the crash. Deputies detoured vehicles via County Road 352 and County Road 551 to U.S. 41. About 60 semi-trucks were unable to turn around and remained on the roadway until M-35 was opened for traffic, Marks said.

Accident investigators from the state police post in Gladstone are assisting the sheriff's office in analyzing the crash.

Responding agencies included Mid-County Rescue Squad, Mid-County Rescue Extrication Unit, Bay Area Paramedics, Cedarville Fire Department, Michigan State Police, Delta County Sheriff's Department and Menominee County Victim Services Unit.

Menominee County Road Commission assisted at the scene and also used a salt truck to maintain safety while traffic was detoured.
