Norway wrestling on the rise

Norway High School wrestling continues to make great strides.

Coach Nick Burklund reports the Knights graduate just two wrestlers this season, with five "committed eighth graders" in the youth program.

"Norway wrestling is going in the right direction" said Burklund, citing 54 "junior wrestlers" directed by Tracy Haferkorn and Billy Burklund. "We have some really good coaches that keep the kids constantly learning." ...

Milwaukee Bradley Tech Coach Craig Bevilacqua regretted not being able to return for last Saturday's Ray Mariucci Invitational wrestling tournament in Kingsford.

Bevilacqua cited "team issues and did not want to reward them with a "mini-vacation" to Kingsford. The Kingsford grad also treated his team with pasties and pizzelles from his grandmother, Barb Ponchaud.

Bradley Tech, recently named Journal Sentinel Team of the Week, held a 14-0 dual mark in late December. Defending 138-pound state champion Travis Smith is a standout at 152 ...
