MARQUETTE - Iron Mountain Gold rallied from a 10-point deficit to down Marquette 26-14 and finish the U.P. High School Bowling Conference regular season with an unbeaten record.
Iron Mountain lost both Baker games but won the three regular games and took 11 of 15 individual points.
Rachel VanKlompenburg (153, 153 games) and Tori Boersma (152, 177) each tallied three points; Emily Elmer added two, and Megan Balkum, Makenna Steinbeck and Yanna Stevens each had one.
"The girls struggled but never gave up," Mountaineer coach John Spera said. "They wanted this win."
Iron Mountain Black won a conference match against Escanaba B, 27-13.
The girls took eight of 10 Baker game points and won the last two team games to win the team series by three pins.
It was the first match in which all the bowlers exceeded their averages.
Breann Brown took three points with games of 122, 124 and 127. Courtney Rietveld had two points (120, 126), as did MacKenzie Beam (126, 139).
Emily Maule's 122 was good for another point.
Lindsey Fraker and Brie Fair rounded out the team.
"It was a good team effort, the girls never got down on themselves and stayed focussed throughout the match," commented a team spokesperson.
Iron Mountain's boys and girls bowl at home (Recreation Lanes) Saturday for the first time this season.
