KINGSFORD - The Robert Elliott family has established a new scholarship at Kingsford High School.
The Robert Elliott Memorial Football Scholarship will provide one scholarship in the amount of $500 to a student pursuing post-secondary education and playing football at the collegiate level. The scholarship will be awarded in May to a Kingsford High School graduate of the class of 2013.
Qualified applicants must have:
- cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
- accepted to and intend to enroll at a four-year college.
- play college-level football.
- submit a completed scholarship application, transcript, and a personal statement describing what Flivver football has meant to them.
"Robert Elliott was a 1947 graduate of KHS and was a proud Flivver football player," said scholarship coordinator Rita Edberg.
Robert Elliott played center and wore No. 24.
"Once he returned to the north after his retirement, he continued to attend the Iron Mountain-Kingsford game each year," Edberg said. "Mr. Elliott's children fondly remember their time growing up and playing road ball in their hometown of Greenfield, Wisconsin.
"His children have chosen to honor his memory and fondness for Kingsford High School football by creating this scholarship."
Breitung Township Schools board of education and Kingsford High School administration are pleased to accept the opportunity to coordinate such a heartfelt and worthwhile scholarship venture for the Elliott family and graduates of Kingsford High School.
