FLORENCE, Wis. - A Commonwealth, Wis. woman has been sentenced to serve 30 days in the Florence County Jail for passing stolen checks at bars in Aurora, Wis.

Stephanie K. Schuls, 36, also must serve three years of probation, complete 100 hours of community service, pay restitution, and not consume alcohol.

Schuls was sentenced on one felony count of uttering a forgery and one misdemeanor count of theft. Three additional felony counts of uttering a forgery were dismissed in a plea deal.

According to the criminal complaint in the case, Schuls stole a checkbook from a Florence woman in June. She then wrote out and passed four of those checks at two Aurora taverns in October.

In other Florence County Court action:

- Heather Marie Smith, 26, of Florence received a deferred judgment for one felony count of possession of narcotic drugs.

If Smith complies with probation requirements, which include 50 hours of community service, she will not be sentenced.

Pursuant to a plea deal, 11 additional misdemeanor drug counts against Smith were dismissed.

The charges stem from a Dec. 29 incident in Florence.

According to the criminal complaint in the case, law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at a residence shared by Smith and 26-year-old Sheldon Burkart in connection to a burglary at the Laona Pharmacy.

Officials discovered numerous controlled substances in the residence.

Burkart and a codefendant, 27-year-old Charles Hetzer of Florence, have since been charged in the pharmacy burglary.
