Florence man hurt in crash

FLORENCE, Wis. - A Florence man was injured in a one-vehicle rollover accident Monday on County Road N in Florence.

The crash occurred at 1:13 p.m. near the Florence County Fairgrounds.

Officials from the Florence County Sheriff's Department said that 22-year-old Zachary Neuens was driving a pickup truck when he lost concentration.

His vehicle got caught in the shoulder of the road, then went into the ditch, where it struck a sign and rolled over, said officials.

Neuens was transported to Dickinson County Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

The Florence Fire Department and Florence Rescue Squad assisted.

Also on Monday, emergency responders were called to a report of a structure fire at apartments on 601 Central Avenue in Florence.

The call came in at about 3:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a furnace in the basement of the building had overheated and melted some plastic, causing black smoke to be vented through the apartments.

There was no fire.

No one was injured in the incident.
