Bernard Raymond

KINGSFORD - Bernard "Bernie" Raymond, 91, of Kingsford, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.

He was born on Aug. 1, 1921, in Fayette, Mich., son of the late Clevis and Agnes (Brault) Raymond. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged.

He married Josephine Anderson on Dec. 23, 1944, in Iron Mountain, and together they spent more than 68 wonderful years.

Bernie went to work for the Ford Motor Co. for a few years and when they left the area he took a position at the V.A. Medical Center. He then left the V. A. Hospital to work in maintenance at the United States Post Office, retiring in 1980. He then took a position as bailiff for the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office, retiring in 2005.

He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Bernie was involved in many things through the years donating his time and talent to the bus ministries and the "Share your Christmas" program. He served as the Grand Marshall of the Fourth of July Parade, he was voted the Citizen of the Year and the State of Michigan Veteran of the Year. He served as the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) chaplain and on the Veteran Affairs Board including many veteran activities. He dedicated his life to helping others through community services and charity work.

Bernie enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and many sporting events.

Bernie is survived by his loving wife, Josephine Raymond; sons, Gary Raymond of Sagola, and David (Ronda) Raymond of Palm Coast, Fla.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers Alphonse, Lester, and Leon Raymond; and sisters Tony Plant, Alice Morrison, and Louise.

Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

The funeral service will follow Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. James Danielson will officiate.

Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery. The American Legion Post 50 will accord full military honors on Saturday at the funeral home.
