KINGSFORD - With 10 of the top 13 players from last year's team returning, Kingsford's boys tennis team is looking forward to another successful season.

The Flivvers finished second in the Great Northern Conference last season and took third in the U.P. finals.

"The weather is making it tough to challenge for positions," Flivvers coach Mark Shanks said. "But we are getting a lot of repetitions in the gym and will be in good shape to take to the outdoor courts."

About 30 student-athletes are competing for 12 positions. While a couple of returners may shift positions from last season, Shanks said No. 4 singles and No. 4 doubles remain open.

"This will be the deepest team of athletes I will put on the courts in my 26 years of boys tennis," Shanks said. "Time will tell is we can polish into tennis players and stay on top of the competition."

Returning letter winners to the Flivvers include both No. 1 singles in Caleb Harrington and No. 1 doubles with Aidan Wienke and Dalton Allen.

Alec Tuchowski (No. 2 doubles), Sean Ryan-Ted Pietila (No. 3 doubles), Tyler Schaut (No. 4 doubles), Adam Szabo (No. 2 singles), Daniel Harrington (No. 3 singles) and Joe Gregory (No. 4 singles) are also among the team's returners.

"A handful of talented underclassmen are out to fill the open vacated spots," Shanks said. "It should be a successful spring tennis season."

Roster follows:

SENIOR - Dalton Allen, Caleb Harrington, Aaron Monette, Ted Pietila, Sean Ryan, Tyler Schaut, Alec Tuchowski, Aidan Wienke.

JUNIOR - Peter Fornetti, Kevin LeClaire, Gabriel Swanson, Andrew Zander.
