ISHPEMING - Kingsford pulled out to a 4-0 lead and held off Ishpeming 4-3 in American Legion baseball Tuesday.
The Blues tallied one run in the second and three in the third for the 4-0 cushion. Ishpeming rallied with one run in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Michael McCole, in his first pitching appearance after an injury, permitted three hits in five innings. He fanned three and walked two.
Relief pitcher Brandon Kowalkowski gave up two hits and walked three.
"It was really good to see Michael on the mound," said Kingsford manager Kevin Murdock. "Mike pitched five strong innings and only allowed three hits. He hasn't missed a beat."
CJ Qualley, Wes Paupore, Cole Tengesdahl, Gabe Swanson and Cole Michaud each tagged two Kingsford hits. Conor Berndt added a single.
The Blues (12-12) participate this weekend in the American Legion tournament at Channing. Games start at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the schedule to be determined.
