American Legion zone at Menominee

All-Star baseball game set for July 16

IRON MOUNTAIN - Defending Class A state champion Kingsford Blues and Channing Railroaders will begin the American Legion zone tournament Wednesday, July 24, in Menominee.

Kingsford and Marquette will clash at 1 p.m. in one of five first-round games. Channing takes on Hancock at 3 p.m. in another contest.

The winners will collide at 4 p.m. Thursday. The losers are slated for elimination bracket games at noon and 3 p.m. Thursday, July 25.

Tournament runs through Saturday, July 27, and possibly July 28. Games are slated for Red Lacousiere and B.J. Stupak fields.

Tier 2 state tournament runs July 31 to Aug. 4 in Hudson. As of now, three teams will advance from the zone the state.

Mid-Peninsula American Legion League all-star game will start at 5 p.m. (Central time) Tuesday, July 16, at Ishpeming.

Players, with four from each Legion team, are asked to arrive at 4 p.m.

The nine-inning game will not have substitution rules.

Kingsford, Channing and Gladstone comprise the South stars; Marquette, Ishpeming and Hancock for the home North team.
