Check with an agent

September 25, 2013
The Daily News

EDITOR:

In response to the woman from Norway who was complaining about Obamacare and the loss of her BCBS coverage.

I am an insurance agent in Mesa Arizona. I also am licensed and conduct business in Texas, Ohio and Michigan.

There are many people in those same shoes. However, someone can delay being subject to Obamacare for one year by buying a major medical plan prior to the end of 2013. The major carriers are not required to comply with Obamacare until the first renewal that would be in 2014. That means that if someone gets a new plan between now and the end of the year, they can get it at the pre-Obamacare rates and will not see a rate increase for one year from the purchase date because the insurance companies are holding the 2013 rate for 12 months.

Before you get on an Obamacare plan, check with an agent or broker to see what alternatives may be available for both short and long term.

The old saying that there is more than one way to skin a cat holds true.
