MARQUETTE - A Skandia man is in critical condition after being run over by a car on Thursday.

The accident occurred at about 5 p.m. in the front yard of a residence on Ingalls Road in Skandia Township.

Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff's Department said that 56-year-old Daniel Delaski of Skandia was backing out of his driveway in a 2006 Chevrolet Trail Blazer in order to give a ride to 61-year-old Richard Gelsinger of Skandia.

According to deputies, Delaski was unaware that Gelsinger was walking behind the vehicle when he hit him.

Further investigation revealed that Delaski was operating under the influence of alcohol, said deputies.

Gelsinger was transported to Marquette General Hospital, where he is being treated for internal injuries. He is in critical condition, said deputies.

Delaski was arrested and charged with operating while impaired-causing serious injury. His bond was set at 10 percent of $5,000.

Assisting at the scene were the Skandia-West Branch First Responders and Marquette General EMS.

The accident remains under investigation.
