Lake Antoine Road project delayed

October 4, 2013
The Daily News

IRON MOUNTAIN - The Quinnesec-Lake Antoine Road project has come to a temporary halt, Dickinson County Road Commission officials announced.

Due to a difference interpreting an American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) standard between the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) laboratory and the contractor, Payne and Dolan, a temporary stop in the construction on the project has consequently occurred, said Lance Malburg, Road Commission engineer.

The contractor and MDOT are working toward a resolution so work can resume on the project as soon as possible, Malburg said.

"This delay will, unfortunately guarantee that the project will not be completed this year," he said.

Next week, the contractor will return and do just enough work including blacktop patching over the gravel areas and the intersection with Upper Pine Creek Road to prepare the road for winter.

When the issue is resolved and work resumes, the contractor will be pulverizing the east-west portion of the project followed by the base paving of that section.
