Pastor Irene White, left, of Grace United Methodist Church in Norway, and Katherine, center, and Chris Spence prepare for the free Thanksgiving meal that will be held this Sunday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The menu will be a traditional Thanksgiving feast that includes turkey, all the trimmings, and topped off with pumpkin pie.
There is no cost for dinner, but a donation basket will be available for those who want to make a contribution toward the free meals program.
Meals will also be delivered in the Norway-Vulcan area upon request. Reservations are usually not required for the monthly free meal program at the church, but to assist in the food planning for this special Thanksgiving dinner, both those who would like to eat at church and those needing take-outs are asked to call ahead, if possible.
Participants are encouraged to call the church office at 563-8917 before 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14. Persons are asked to leave a message if you get the answering machine. Please note that messages left at the church after the Thursday deadline may not be received. Reservations can also be made anytime prior to the dinner by calling Chris Spence at 282-9752.
"The meals program has been a growing community outreach ministry," said an event organizer.
More than 100 meals are now being delivered every month, which is funded through donations and an Emerging Ministries Grant from the United Methodist Church.
"Everyone is welcome to come celebrate as we remember to count our many blessings," she adds. "We do have so much to be thankful for on Thanksgiving Day."
The church is located at 130 O'Dill Drive behind the Jake Menghini Museum.
