COLEMAN, Wis. - Coleman, striking early, downed Niagara 13-5 in M&O Conference baseball game Friday.
The Cougars scored twice in the first and three more times in the second on their way to building a 10-0 lead after four innings.
Niagara answered with a five-run fifth, but couldn't draw closer.
Domenic Spigarelli and Chase Champagne opened the frame by drawing walks. Hunter Kaldor loaded the bases with a single before Patrick Moreau drove in two with another single. Ethan Blagec followed with a two-run double.
The Cougars, led by Blake Margis' 4-for-5 effort at the dish, responded with three more runs in the bottom half of the sixth.
Champagne took the loss for Niagara, allowing five runs on six hits in two innings. Blagec threw for three innings, yielding the rest of Coleman's runs on seven hits while striking out four. Jacob Bousley pitched the seventh.
Kaldor was 2-for-4 for Niagara. The Badgers nearly struck first in the game. Champagne walked in the first and advanced to third on a stolen base and passed ball. Despite no outs in the inning, Champagne was stranded at third.
In Niagara's 3-1 season-opening win over Gillett, Kaldor went the distance and allowed five hits while striking out six and issuing just two walks.
Kaldor, who was 3-for-3, put the Badgers on the board in the first with a RBI double to deep right center to score Champagne, who walked and stole second.
Kaldor and Moreau both singled in the sixth. Blagec drove in Kaldor, and Moreau scored on a single by Bousley.
Niagara (1-1) is scheduled to host Goodman-Pembine Monday.
