KINGSFORD - Edward W. Dennis, 78, of Kingsford, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014, at his home.
He was born on April 16, 1936, in Kingsford, son of the late Alfred and Mildred (Richards) Dennis. Edward grew up in Kingsford and graduated from Kingsford High School where he held multiple athletic records. He went on to attend Northern Michigan University and played tight end on the 1956 undefeated football team.
Edward married Connie Phillips in Niagara, Wis., and they resided in Kingsford. He worked for Hanna Mining Co. as a welder for many years, retiring in 1981. Edward then married Joanne Van Oss on April 8, 2006, in Sagola. They resided in Kingsford.
Edward had many hobbies, including hunting, going to camp, golfing and playing cards. He enjoyed helping others and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Edward is survived by his loving wife, Joanne; three sons, Keith (Karen) Dennis of Florence, Wis., Kevin (Jenny) Dennis of Mukwonago, Wis. and Kurt Dennis of Bad Axe; one daughter, Brenda (Charles) Seremjian of Brighton; two stepsons, Larry (Judy) Process and David (Pat) Process; one stepdaughter, Michelle (Chris) Tremel; father-in-law, Floyd Van Oss of Channing; one brother, Herb (Helen) Dennis of Fairfax, Va.; one sister, Jeanette (Bill) Baril of Iron Mountain; 12 grandchildren, Nichole (Kenneth), Michelle (Recce), Ryan, Mark, Jason, Kristen, Angela (Bob), Allison, Michael, Hanna, Ashley, and Emily; six step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by two brothers, Orville and Henry; and an infant sister.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
A celebration of life service will follow Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
