CRYSTAL FALLS - The Iron County Board of Commissioners will hold two public hearings on Tuesday, May 13.
The hearings will begin at 4 p.m. in the Commissioners Room of the Iron County Courthouse. The board's regular monthly meeting will immediately follow.
The first hearing is regarding an application by Iron County for $150,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
According to Iron County Board of Commissioners Chair James Brennan, the CDBG funding would result in the rehabilitation of approximately 12 single family owner-occupied housing units in Iron County at a per unit cost of less than $35,000, and would provide Emergency Needs Services to approximately six housing units.
The rehabilitated units would meet all local, state and federal codes and the Section 8 Existing Housing Quality Standards. Households that are assisted will have incomes that do not exceed 80 percent of the Area Median Income.
Assistance would be in the form of a deferred loan, Property Improvement Plan loan or a combination of financing as is available depending on income.
The purpose of the second hearing is to discuss a proposed grant with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the amount of $13,000, to acquire a new patrol vehicle for the Iron County Sheriff's Department.
