HAMILTON LAKES - Ernest Jay Olivares, 65, of Hamilton Lakes, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at his home with his loving wife, Sheila at his side.
Jay was born in Detroit, on Dec. 26, 1948, the son of the late Ernest and Mary (Brennan) Olivares and was the oldest of seven children.
He graduated with his bachelor of arts degree from Northern and then continued to pursue one of his passions receiving a Juris Doctor Degree from Wayne State University in 1975.
During this pursuit in law school, he met Sheila Scrafano, they married on May 10, 1975, in St. Clair Shores, and they were happily married for 39 years.
Jay and Sheila relocated to Norway, MI in 1977 where Jay proudly served the Norway community as city attorney and also opened his private law practice in 1977.
In Jay's free time, he pursued another of his passions playing the drums, which is how he made his way through college and spent his weekends, when he wasn't playing basketball with his son, Justin, who meant the world to him.
Jay is survived by his wife Sheila and their son, Justin (Beth) Olivares; and six brothers and sisters, Larry (Darlene), Keith (Brenda), Mark (Carol), Theresa, Frannie (Victor), and John (Amy).
He will be forever missed and loved.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be held at the Norway Township Cemetery.
