Baseball: Crandon beats Florence, 6-3

CRANDON, Wis. — The Florence Bobcats, despite a strong pitching performance from Dylan McLain, bowed to Crandon 6-3 in Northern Lakes Conference baseball Thursday.

The Bobcats (4-2, 4-2 NLC) scored three runs in the first inning but the Cardinals took over from there with two runs in the bottom half, one in the third, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Two Crandon pitchers gave up five hits, struck out seven and walked five. Bobcats’ Jakob Larson had two singles,

McLain, normally the Bobcats front-line catcher, allowed seven hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

“We’re short on pitchers,” said Florence coach Dave LaPoint. “He’s basically our third pitcher and threw a heck of a game.”

McLain permitted just one earned run.

“We had four errors and at crucial times,” LaPoint said. “Dylan deserved a better fate. He gave a great effort but didn’t get the support he should have.”

Florence hosts Elcho on Monday.
