Jets’ Krachinski selects Northern

MARQUETTE — North Central’s Marcus Krachinski, along with Alec Fruin and Dolapo Olayinka, have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team in the fall of 2017.

“I’m very happy with the spring additions to the basketball program,” NMU Coach Bill Sall said. “All three young men are hard workers and very good students. These three additions, along with early signees Anthony Bethea, Troy Summers and Carson Wonders (Iron Mountain), give us a very good 2017 recruiting class. These young men are outstanding players, great students and will be major contributors to the NMU basketball program both on and off the court.”

A three-time Michigan Class D state champion at North Central High School, Krachinski averaged 11.8 points, 3.2 assists and 2.4 steals per game.

“Marcus is a proven winner and comes to Northern Michigan with three state-championship rings,” Sall said of the 6-1 guard from Powers. “I see him making huge strides in strength and quickness as he goes through his freshman season. He has a high basketball IQ. This will make it easier for him as he adjusts to playing the point guard position.”

With 1,985 career points, Fruin, a 6-foot-4 guard, leaves Beloit (Wis.) Turner High School as its all-time leading scorer.

Dolapo Olayinka, a 6-5 forward from Chicago, averaged 19.7 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.8 blocks per game at Mather High School. Originally from Nigeria, he was selected to the all-city honorable mention squad.
