New Flivver co-op debuts today

KINGSFORD — The expanded Kingsford High School hockey co-op makes its debut this afternoon at Mountain View Ice Arena.

The Flivvers, under new coach Dennis Murvich, and Cheboygan will meet at 3 p.m.

Kingsford has added Forest Park and West Iron County players to the co-op team that already features those from Dickinson County schools.

Junior forward Daunte Fortner, one of 11 players back from last season, earned 2017 all-conference in the Great Lakes and Lake Superior leagues.

Other players returning from last year are goalie Trevor Anderson; defenseman Ethan Fox, Brennan Phillips and Sawyer Perpich; forward-defenseman Dempsey Lauridsen; and forwards Eamonn Weed, Reece Fortner, Eli Langston, Ben Schroeder and David Brule.

Kingsford was 12-13-1 last season under coach Jim Peterson.

Cheboygan, featuring five four-year seniors, began the season Friday against Jeffers. The Chiefs face Sault Ste. Marie after the Flivvers.

“It’s going to be an interesting year,” Cheboygan Coach Craig Coxe, a former NHL player who visited Iron Mountain last month for the Red Wings Alumni in September, told the Cheboygan Daily Tribune. “We haven’t played (Kingsford) in a few years, but from all indications they’re going to be a good hockey team.”

Kingsford roster follows:
