Balanced Jets blast Bears

Boys Basketball

GARDEN CORNERS — Griffin Johnson scored a career-high 12 points to help North Central’s balanced attack in an 86-40 win Friday night against host Big Bay de Noc.

Trenton Schaff led the Jets with 13 points as five players reached double figures. Austin Poupore produced 11 points and Lucas Dombrowski and Carter Holle supplied 10 points apiece.

“Griffin did a good job running the offense at point guard and he played with confidence,” Jets’ coach Adam Mercier said. “We played everybody equally tonight. It was nice to have a game to bounce back after Wednesday’s difficult loss (Rapid River).”

Kellen Thill scored 10 points and Alex LaLone added nine points for Big Bay, which fell behind 18-9 after one quarter and 42-24 at halftime.

North Central (10-4), which had only three turnovers, converted 35-of-62 shots from the field for 56 percent.

“I thought all of our kids responded well tonight,” Mercier said. “I thought the kids focused from the get go, which is good to see.”

On Tuesday, North Central hosts North Dickinson and Big Bay travels to Mid Peninsula.
