Carney-Nadeau boys nip Forest Park

Boys Basketball

CARNEY — Carney-Nadeau held on to edge Forest Park 51-50 in Skyline Central Conference boys basketball Friday.

The Wolves avoided a collapse after leading by seven points with 1:28 to play in the game despite missing eight straight free throws. Max Nylund hit a three-pointer in the Trojans’ comeback.

“We could have put it away with a couple minutes left,” Carney-Nadeau coach Jake Polfus said. “I’m just happy we came out with the win.”

The Trojans (11-8, 6-4) had a chance to tie the game on their final possession, but a 3-point attempt didn’t fall, and the putback made it a one-point game at 51-50.

The Wolves trailed 28-19 at the half, but outscored Forest Park by ten points in the third quarter.

For the Trojans, Nylund poured in 21 points and Jonah Logan added 12.

“We had our opportunities to win it at,” said FP coach Chris Nocerini. “Carney brought a lot more energy and we kind of ran out of gas. All in all, I was happy with the kids’ performance. They battled to the end.”

The Trojans host North Central on Tuesday.
