Girls basketball: North Central beats Carney
POWERS — North Central switched its defense, hit some shots and rolled in the second half in a 55-41 win Monday against visiting rival Carney-Nadeau.
“We changed our defense and got some turnovers on them,” Jets’ coach Lee Vincent said. “We hit four 3-pointers in the third quarter. We got it together and made a run. it was nice.”
North Central applied a zone press in the third quarter, while playing man-to-man defense the entire game.
The game was tied at 11-11 after one quarter and C-N took a 24-19 lead into halftime. North Central outscored the Wolves 23-12 in the third quarter and 13-5 in the fourth quarter.
The Jets placed four players in double figures — Chloe Wells (13 points), Jadie Linder (11 points), Natalie Dombrowski (10 points, 10 rebounds, eight steals) and Bree Arsenault (10 points). North Central shot 20 of 51 shots (39 percent) and had 18 steals.
Taylor Linder scored 12 points and Layla Blahnik-Thuene added 11 points for the Wolves.
“We played pretty well in the first half,” Wolves’ coach Travis Depuydt said. “We came out flat in the third quarter and they hit some shots. Unfortunately, we went cold when they went hot. It’s not a recipe for success.”

Sara Sivula collected 10 rebonds and six steal and Linder grabbed 10 rebounds for the Wolves (7-6, 2-2), who won the JV game.
