ISHPEMING — Ishpeming held off West Iron County 54-53 in non-conference boys basketball Tuesday.

Hematites’ Hart Holmgren scored 15 of his team-high 19 points in the first half as Ishpeming (13-6) built a 32-27 halftime lead.

But WIC (10-10) shaved its deficit to just 43-42 by the end of the third quarter.

Darius Yohe contributed 14 points to the winning cause, including six of the Hematites’ 11 fourth-quarter points, while Dondre Yohe added 10.

The Wykons’ James Swanson joined Holmgren in scoring 19 points to lead his team, while WIC’s Steven Nelson added 17.

Ishpeming, which also won the JV game 65-31, plays at Escanaba on Thursday to complete its regular season before playing in the Class C district being held in Negaunee next week.

The Wykons travel to Ironwood on Wednesday for the district opener.
