Three local runners were a part of Boston Marathon history on Monday.

Lower Michigan resident Desiree Linden became the first US woman since 1985 to win the Boston Marathon. She was clocked in 2 hours, 39 minutes, 54 seconds.

Iron Mountain’s Katie Ross (4:34.42) also completed the Boston Marathon along with Norway’s Mark Skog (4:07.21) and Iron Mountain’s Kelly Smith (5:22.45).

Menominee’s Mak Jasper, 40, was the fastest UP runner with a time of 2:54.31 — good for 968th overall. Runners battled nasty weather conditions described as an “icy rain and near-gale winds” by The Associated Press …

From Steve Rosenbloom, Chicago Tribune: “Aaron Rodgers reportedly is ‘frustrated’ that the Packers haven’t consulted with him on recent personnel decisions, and I’m thinking, geez, dude, you’re awfully cranky for a guy who isn’t stuck with decisions made by (Bears GM) Ryan Pace.”

Italian tennis player Fabio Fognini threw his racket twice in a Davis Cup semifinal loss to France.

Associated Press reported, “On the first occasion, Fognini slammed his racket on the red clay court then broke it clean in half across his knee.”
