In what probably has not happened in quite some time, nobody from Dickinson or Iron County will be playing in Saturday’s spring football game at Michigan Tech.

Iron River’s Max Maloney, a standout defensive end at West Iron County who has redshirted two seasons at Michigan Tech, will be a spectator Saturday.

And for good reason: He’s on the mend from a torn labrum (shoulder muscle) but will be ready to go in the fall. Max suffered the injury in last year’s spring game but held off the surgery and nine-month recovery process until after the 2017 season.

Tech’s 2015 Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year wound up playing in all 11 games for the Huskies last season. Bellin’s Dr. Patrick McKenzie, team physician for the Green Bay Packers, performed the surgery in early December.

Intensive daily rehab with Michigan Tech’s trainers should have Max ready for the season opener on Aug. 30 at Truman University.

Actually, Iron County will have a connection to the spring game as Newberry’s John Paramski, son of former Forest Park star Pete Paramski and Max’s cousin, will be out there. Pete also played for the Huskies.

Our area’s number of Tech football players will climb to three in the fall when Norway’s Micah Wilson and Kingsford’s Liam Gayan join the program …

It was thought Ellary had 988 career points, but overlooked were two district tournament games as a sophomore.

Ellary is now up to 1,007, third behind No. 1 Jordan Kraemer and Diana Milligan …

Said “Coast to Coast AM” in a statement: “As he begins his journey on the ‘other side,’ we take solace in the hope that he is now finding out all of the answers to the mysteries he pursued for so many nights with all of us.”
