KINGSFORD — Kingsford High School girls soccer is in a reloading mode.

The Flivvers return 13 players with experience including All-UP Soccer Conference first-teamer Maddy Ryan and honorable mention Carly Schneider.

“Maddy will anchor the defense,” said second-year Flivver head coach Jon Lorenzoni. “She is a stellar defender that does not make mistakes.”

Schneider along with seniors Brooke Blaskowski and Maddy Bennett “should provide some pop offensively,” according to Lorenzoni, noting that Bennett missed all of last year with a torn ACL.

Also returning for the Flivvers are senior Amanda Jensen; juniors Bailey Lamoreaux, Erica Whittkopf and Grace Lorenzoni; and sophomores Bailey Johnson, Hannah Strutz, Lexi Roberge, Stephanie List and Kalli Dooley.

“They all logged quality minutes last year,” Lorenzoni said. “I am very impressed by the talent we have this year. We aren’t rebuilding. We are reloading. Our freshmen can contribute immediately and our returning players will produce more in leadership roles. We will be very competitive.”

The Flivvers, postponed by weather in their first three matches, will travel to Minocqua, Wis., tonight for an indoor scrimmage.

“I like the competitive fire of this team,” Lorenzoni said. “Even the weather hasn’t gotten them down. If we ever get on the field, I think we’ll get after it pretty good.”

The 2017 Flivvers posted an 11-3-2 record, with the three losses all by 1-0 scores.

“We have to find a way to win the close games,” Lorenzoni said. “I think we have some kids who are going to consistently find the net.”

The coach was referring to the seniors along with Penegor, Johnson, Lamoreaux and others for offensive production.

“We just need to score consistently and in big games,” Lorenzoni said. “I think we will.”

Sophomore Strutz will get the first crack at keeper, likely making her high school debut in the April 24 home opener with Marquette.

“Hannah is just so coachable and gives her all in every single drill,” Lorenzoni said.

The Flivvers graduated six senior starters in Abby Person, Abbey Erickson, Hannah Carlson, Tori DalSanto and Mallory Jayne.

“You cannot replace the graduated seniors,” said Lorenzoni, assisted by Libby DeClark and John Bittinger. “They played tons of minutes and helped to set the tone for future success. Can’t thank them enough.”

Carlson was the UP Soccer Conference Defensive Player of the Year. DalSanto, Erickson and Person earned all-conference first-team.
