ESCANABA – Tickets are available for the 47th annual Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet Saturday, May 12, at the Island Resort and Casino in Harris.

Tickets are $30 per person for the meal and reception and must be purchased by May 9. Tickets will not be for sale at the banquet. They are available by contacting Mike Caruso (774-1918).

The banquet begins at 6 p.m. (EDT) in the room behind the casino proper. Also recognized will be four Upper Peninsula high school student/athletes as they received college scholarships from the Hall of Fame.

The 2018 induction class includes former Westwood High School and Michigan Tech basketball standout Sarah (Stream) Stanek of Iron Mountain, former Iron Mountain cager and Menominee High School boys basketball coach Pete Pericolosi of Menominee, the late Rich McCarthy of Kingsford, former UPLGA and Big 10 golf champion Ingrid Gallo of Ironwood, former Gladstone basketball coach Jack Ingalls, former Northern Michigan University football coach Herb Grenke, former NMU basketball player and college coach Jim Karabetsos of Marquette, football standout Don Michaelson of L’Anse, former Eben and Munising coach Walfred (Mike) Mickelson, and former Negaunee multi-sport coach and UPLGA champion Karen Plaisier
