Ryan, Poupore named UP Soccer Conference players of the year

KINGSFORD — The two best players in the UP Girls Soccer Conference demonstrated their skills this spring at Commemorative Field.

League coaches named Iron Mountain junior forward Riley Poupore as the offensive player of the year while Kingsford senior Maddy Ryan earned defensive honors.

The league champion Mountaineers and Flivvers both call Commemorative Field home.

Poupore was joined on the first-team by teammates Brianna Hoffman, Marissa Schilling and Bethany Fehr. Mia Broullire-Formolo received honorable mention.

Kingsford had honorable mention selections in Carly Schneider, Liz Penegor and Bailey Johnson.

Iron Mountain won the league title under first-year head coach Steve Hodgins.

All-UP Girls Soccer Conference selections:

Forwards/Mids — Riley Poupore, Brianna Hoffman and Marissa Schilling, Iron Mountain; Joslyn Perala, Houghton; Lauren Kurzawa and Bridget Pliska, Marquette

Defense — Maddy Ryan, Kingsford; Bethany Fehr, Iron Mountain; Marleigh Purdy, Houghton; Sophie Bartlett, Marquette

Goalkeeper — Maria Lorenzetti, Houghton

Honorable Mention — Kaaren Liston, Daryn DuPont and Emma Stout, Houghton; Mia Broullire-Formolo, Iron Mountain; Emilee Gooch and Ivy Pickard, Marquette; Carly Schneider, Liz Penegor and Bailey Johnson, Kingsford.
