Football: Pickford edges Trojans

CRYSTAL FALLS — Isaac Brown’s 95-yard kick return snapped an 8-8 tie in the first quarter and Pickford went on to beat Forest Park 38-20 in a Great Lakes Eight crossover football game at Dick Mettlach Field.

Trojans’ CJ Post scored twice in the first quarter, once on a 10-yard pass from Tommy Peltoma and the other on a six-yard run.

The Panthers (3-0) carried a 16-14 lead into the second half.

With 15 seconds left in the game, Peltoma passed six yards to Hal Hoenig for the score.

Pickford quarterback Jim Storey and Nick Edington hooked up for 10 and 57-yard scoring passes.

Peltoma completed 10 of 20 passes for 120 yards and rushed 20 times for 81 yards. Post rushed for 75 yards on 23 carries and Nathan Johnson added 23 on eight attempts.

Forest Park gained 311 yards (191 rushing) and Pickford totaled 202 (86 rushing, 116 passing)

Evan Hedtke led the defense with seven tackles, three assists and one fumble recovery.

“Pickford has a very good team, a very solid team,” said Forest Park head coach Dave Graff, noting the Panthers had a big advantage in experience. “We were able play with them for the first half.”

The Trojans (1-2) host Stephenson on Friday. Graff said dropped scoring passes and the defense unable to make stops also hurt the Trojans.

“I’m proud of the effort and the way we competed,” Graff said. “We have some little things to clean up and that will come with experience.”

Engadine blanks Nordics

ENGADINE — Engadine defeated North Dickinson 55-0 in a Great Lakes Eight crossover football game Friday.

“The wheels fell off early,” said Nordics coach Mike Christian.

North Dickinson (0-3) hosts Cedarville in another league crossover game Friday.
