Football: Wheeler, Bobcats air it out in 34-8 win over Phillips
PHILLIPS, Wis. — Florence went to the air to remain undefeated in its first eight-player football season, whipping Phillips 34-8 behind three touchdown passes by Toby Wheeler.
“We threw over the top, which we haven’t had to do in the first two games,” said Bobcats coach Kent Walstrom. “They were a tough team, physical. It’s a nice win for us.”
Joe Walstrom caught two of the scoring passes and another went to Kaden Schuls. Wheeler also had a rushing touchdown. Eric DeCremer added a rushing score and was credited with a safety.
Gary Liebergen paced the defense with nine tackles. Wheeler, Walstrom and Evan Beaster had interceptions.
Playing an independent schedule, Florence (3-0) will have its first home game Friday, hosting Carney-Nadeau.
