Volleyball: IM beats Manistique
MANISTIQUE — Iron Mountain bounced back from a first-set loss to beat Manistique 3-1 (13-25, 25-19, 25-9, 25-9) in West PAC volleyball Monday.
The Emeralds opened with a six-point run and 19-10 lead in the first set.
“The Emeralds came out in the first set swinging hard,” said Iron Mountain head coach Jeanne Newberry.
In the second set, Iron Mountain pulled away from an 11-11 tie behind two ace serves from Mackenzie Swanson. Riley Poupore had four kills.
Swanson’s six kills and three blocks sparked the Mountaineers in the third set.
In the final set, Poupore had five kills while Emma Thomann started with a block-kill and finished with four kills.
“We made a switch and adjusted with a new lineup in the second match,” said Newberry, crediting the back row for “good passes and digs.”
As a team, the Mountaineers served 95 percent for the night. Ella Fortner, Riley Poupore, Lauren Lesky, McKenna Dabb, Olyvea Galeazzi and Jacqui Rollins each served 100 percent.
Iron Mountain junior varsity beat Manistique 3-0 (26-24, 25-9, 15-13).
Iron Mountain hosts Kingsford tonight starting at 4 p.m. with the freshmen match. The junior varsity and varsity matches will follow.
