KINGSFORD — The Flivvers will return to Great Northern Conference play next week with some momentum.

Quarterback Luke Terrian rushed for a pair of scores and passed for another as Kingsford handled Lomira, Wis., 35-6 in non-conference action Friday at Flivver Field.

The Flivvers (3-4), who can’t afford another loss if they want to make the state playoffs or win the GNC, built a 21-0 halftime lead. The difference was 35-0 in the third quarter when the Lions (3-5) got on the scoreboard.

“We did some good things and played pretty good ‘D,'” said Kingsford head coach Chris Hofer. “It’s good to get a win and get back on track.”

The Flivvers fell off track last week with a 21-20 loss to GNC foe Marquette. After some early sluggish play Friday, they got back on track when fullback Noah Wilcox rumbled 36 yards to the 12. That run set up the first of Terrian’s two four-yard scores.

Later in the first quarter, Terrian flipped a 16-yard scoring pass to Trevor Povolo.

The halftime margin was 21-0 as Jon Schmutzler ran 35 yards and Logan Normand kicked his second PAT.

Terrian’s second four-yard scoring run midway through the third quarter hiked the margin to 28-0. Later in the third period, Flivver defensive back Michael Creighton jumped a pass route and returned the ball 48 yards for a touchdown.

“He made a nice play,” Hofer said. “He made a heck of a break on the ball. He deserves it. He plays hard all the time.”

Creighton had also picked off a pass in the first half.

Lomira, held to 61 yards total offense in the first half, picked things up late in the third quarter. Sophomore reserve Abe Helsell, who finished with 100 yards rushing on five carries, set up quarterback Bennett Broeske for a two-yard scoring run late in the third.

Kingsford thwarted a Lomira fourth-quarter threat when Zach Wood recovered a fumble.

The Flivvers posted 342 yards total offense — 253 rushing. Schmutzler was the top ground gainer with 77 yards on nine attempts. Terrian completed 5 of 14 passes for 89 yards and one interception.

Lomira tallied 291 yards total offense, with 214 rushing and 77 passing.

Kingsford and GNC arch-rival Menominee collide Friday at Flivver Field.

“We have to play better,” Hofer noted.
