Predators run to playoff berth

Whip Wolverines

ELCHO, Wis. — Landen Kaldor and Brent Dumke each rushed for three touchdowns as the playoff-bound Northern Elite Predators swamped Elcho/White Lake 50-18 in MONLPC football Saturday.

The Predators (5-2, 4-0), who locked up a state playoff berth, built a 50-0 halftime lead.

“These games can be hard to prepare for and perform in but we did a pretty good job in the first half executing and playing hard,” said Ben Laarman, head coach of the Niagara, Pembine and Goodman co-op. “When you have a halftime score like that your main goal for the second half is to get out of there with everybody healthy, and we did that. You also want to get some younger guys some experience and experiment with different things, and we did that too.”

Kaldor rushed 15 times for 149 yards and Dumke had 11 attempts for 140 yards. Evan Metras, who opened the scoring with a touchdown run, added 42 yards rushing on six attempts.

Andrew Niven led the defense with eight tackles. The Wolverines had 172 yards total offense.

“We’re coming out of this game happy with the progress we’ve made so far and with a clear vision of what we need to improve on going forward,” Laarman said. “We’ve grown a lot over the course of the season and we still have a lot of room for more growth. We’re just scratching the surface of where we can be and we’re running out of time to get there, so we need to really have some great weeks of practice.”

Predators and Laona-Wabeno will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday at Goodman.
